NMEA 2000 power supply

I need a bit of help or advise; typically the power into a NMEA2000 backbone comes through a separate 'power tee'. I have some space restrictions - is there any reason not to use a short drop cable that contains a power and ground (as well as the blue/white/data wires), and connect it directly to a backbone tee?

Info or advise appreciated! Thanks, michael

Re: NMEA 2000 power supply

the power drop T and cable will be the same size as a normal T and drop cable so I don't really get your question...

if you cut a drop cable and only hooked up the red and black you'd end up with the same thing as a power cable. but you won't save any space.

Re: NMEA 2000 power supply

Well typically the power drop is only a power drop into the network. To transfer the data into an MFD is usually done via an additional Tee and drop cable.

So the question is - can I use a (1) standard drop cable to not only transfer data but provide the power to the network? One tee only.

Is this clear enough? Hope that helps.

Re: NMEA 2000 power supply

there is muliti T blocks that will take multiple drops in a smaller area then a bunch of Tees.

otherwise you plan to cut open a drop cable and splice stuff into it?...
