NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

I am installing a B&G Zeus2 system while keeping some legacy Raymarine equipment. The Raymarine S3G autopilot cannot be connected to the Seatalk to Seatalkng converter (as per pg 17 of their manual and a tech at Raymarine). I need to use the Zeus2 183 port for the Vesper's 38,400 baud rate via a video cable.

Would the Actisense box solve this connectivity issue?

Anyone with install experience on these products?

Thanks.

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

I don't have either, but both B&G and Vesper are top on my list for out fitting next year. As such I have been reading too much on the subject of getting everything to talk to each other.

Question, why can't you connect the Vesper to the Zeus via NMEA 2000? That us kind of the whole point of both devises being NMEA 2000 supported. I didn't even think Vesper out putted 0183 over anything other than Wifi and USB.

The Vesper 850 does not have NMEA2000.

Ah, I assumed it was the XB.

In that case a multiplexer sounds like the solution. I would email the one you suggested, but also try others like Brookhouse and ShipModul.

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

Thanks for the tip!

From the website, it looks like the Brookhouse is the way to go.

I love Cruisersforum.

Good luck. Hopefully they can help out.

Post up a review if the Zeus 2 when you get some experience with it. There are a lot of us sitting around wanting to hear more!

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

auto pilot works fine seatalk to seatalk ng

2 different boats I have hooked up st60 gauges + ray AP to zeus 2

wind, depth heading on zeus 2, and AP control to waypoint all worked. I think even had rudder pos on zeus too.

who reads manuals?

otherwise yes a nmea multiplexer would work. but then you need to separate your seatalk buses. as the AP and gauges are likely already joined.

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

Thanks. There will be only two Ray maxview repeaters going into the Seatalk to SeatalkNG converter. The autopilot is the bigger deal.

Which model Ray auto pilot do you have, Smac?

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

I have a ComNav Commander autopilot and I'm going to be installing a Zeus2 system during my refit this summer, so I'm going to be following all B&G threads. :-)

Zeus2, their hd radar and forward scanning sonar. So little user feedback unfortunately.

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

CAELESTIS, I used a Raymarine multiplexer, available from your local West Marine. Sadly, I gave it to Fritz Richardson, along with all my old Raymarine E120 gear, a couple months ago. It's a simple enough installation. I have since gone to the dark side with an all-Simrad Zeus2 system (but I kept the Interphase 200C forward scan sonar - it uses the video channel to interface)

Re: NMEA 183 to Zeus2 Connectivity

here is how I did my 2. I don't know the pilot type.

you can just re and re the plotter at the helm. don't even need to touch the wires at the rest of the boat. I Just put the seatalk to seatalkng convert right in the nav pods

if you want to add more n2k stuff it would be a little bit different.

I would double check this ! My AP is connected to a converter

See Raymarine text ......

With the introduction of version 1.10, the converter now supports a system with a Autopilot. With version 1.11 you are now able to connect and communicate with a previous generation of Autopilot such as the S1G, S2G and S3G as examples. Information in the manual regarding not being able to connect the converter with a Autopilot in the system is now redundant.

Whoa! That is not the Holy Grail, but it sure is valuable information to me!

Any idea on how to find the version I have?
