Here is a test file for you https://ia601701.us.archive.org/14/i...20File%201.wav

JVComm32 would be my choice for a PC. I'm still running it on XP ...works OK

For a Mac this is the duck's guts.... cocoaModem

Lots of info in this thread

Not free, but I run Xaxero WeatherFax 2000 on XP. Good product.

Re: need weather fax for XP

I have been using Hf Fax by Black Cat Systems for yearsHF Weather Fax Marine Radio Fascimile Decoder App

This runs on my IPad and iPhone and there is an Android version as well. Not certain that there is a version for XP.

This is such an incredibly great app that it would be worth buying a used iPad just to run it. I just prop up my iPad next to my SSB and out pours wx fax maps. I love it. Ideally, I should hard wire it to the headphone jack of the SSB and mic in on the iPad but I have run into what appears to be an ohms incompatability, so I put up with listening to the noise as the maps are printed.

Re: need weather fax for XP

Ok, I lied. I'm not a total dunce and I'm not totally lazy or helpless. I am mostly just frustrated.

Is FAX/Ham_288B the right mode for JVcomm32?

I have the program basically running but can't get a usable display. The amplitude display is consistently green, even red, and the spectrum is a mountain that's steeper than noise...that's sending JVcomm32 Ham SSTV sound sample from a Windows 7 computer or an XP computer to a mike on the other computer.

(JV32comm sound signal:

It seems as if the test sound and the operating mode are the two big questions. Besides the JVcomm sound, the sound samples that I've looked at are

https://ia601701.us.archive.org/14/i...20File%201.wav - The signal that was suggested. Google said yesterday that the file didn't exist. Today the file comes up, but won't play.

DigitalÂ*ModesÂ*Samples -too short to be usable

Re: need weather fax for XP

I've been using JVcomm for many y ears. Has worked well with XP, 7 and 8.1.

Free, easy to download, sorta easy to set up and once set up, easy to use.

What's not to like?

Re: need weather fax for XP

Hi,

We completed a circumnavigation using NOAA fax charts for most areas. Available on MF/HF as well as internet at Marine Radiofax charts

These charts are gif's so you should have no problems. Also if using Sailmail you can request for multiple areas along with GRIB's. Same as electronic navigation though. Use with caution and learn how to read the clouds and seas.

No.

The default 'HF-Fax' is what you want.

OK I shall take your word that you are not a total dunce and lazy... not that it matters

So.... some questions....

Where are you? do you have a boat? do you have a radio, if not - why not??
Why do you want to know this stuff? Do you have security clearance.... can't just share this knowledge with anyone you know...

Do you plan to get a radio?

You will find life easier if you have a radio although I did get that us.archive file working here on the Mac.

Screen shots.... Cocoamodem on the left ( using 'line out' from the radio), JVComm on the dark side of my Mac simply using the mic. First one is after the event...second one during next transmission

OK so I'm just showing off but you should be able to get results like this....maybe with a bit more noise...depending on where you are.
