Need help with radar options

Hi all. My wife and I just bought a Shannon 28 that is in great shape, but it needs a radar. It currently has a Raymarine A65 chartplotter that works just fine, but won't interface with a radar. Am I better off buying something like a Furuno 1623 with a monitor or just replacing everything with a Raymarine or Garmin radar/chartplotter combination? The advantage of the former is that I save some bucks, but then I have two separate monitors (and lower kW radar), and with the latter I spend more, but when using the radar, it's all on one screen.

I just like some thoughts to help me sort this out a bit. Thanks.

doug1957,

Think about a Garmin 740 with a GMR 18HD radar.
You can install it as a DIY.
Built in GPS antenna and comes with pre-loaded charts.
Very easy system to use.

That's the exact combo I've been pondering for a bit. Probably won't pull the trigger for another year but it seems like a solid pairing. Particularly if you add AIS to the mix.

Go to a boat show or west marine and play with all of their machines. See which you like best. I ended up with a garmin 4210 and the 18HD radar. I am really happy with them, and the radar is as good or better than anything else I have ever seen
