Navionics charts go on and off

I have Navionics charts on a Raymarine gS chart plotter running Lighthouse.

Often when I start the boat the charts will not appear, just an array of dots with the boat icon on it and vectors.

Then later (like 15 minutes later when the boat is heading out) the chart will suddenly come on.

Also, sometimes the chart just will go off. I will navigating some tricky channel and all of a sudden the chart goes blank and all the buoys disappear, and I am scrambling to find the paper chart. Then 10 minutes later, the Navionics will come on again.

How can I diagnose or fix this?

Re: Navionics charts go on and off

I have a raymarine hybrid touch system running c-maps. Had similar issue with the system freezing up. Tracked down to it being the chip for c-map. Sent it in and they replaced free, returned and system works great again.

I went into a marinestore and used a display chip to use in my system as a test before sending in the chip though.

Re: Navionics charts go on and off

I had a similar problem with my Simrad equipment. I proved it was the Navionics chip and spoke with them. They told me to remove two hidden files and that solved it. I will have to go to the boat where I wrote down the names of the two files. I have to do that each time I do a chart update. Not a big deal but it keeps them from crashing.

Might solve for you too. I'll post later today when I find the names of those two files.

Hope this helps.

Re: Navionics charts go on and off

Change your computer so you can see hidden files. Delete all files that end in .CK or .UK

That solved my problem
