Thanks KeelMe, we typically use our
boat for sailing around the bay and overnight stays at the islands etc so a new A/P in Aust is around $1100, so justifying the expense can be a little difficult. Hence the option for a cost effective external fluxgate. The
Navico unit has been a good unit in its time, but has suffered from age in as much as the
insulation has failed on those tiny wires coming from the fluxgate. I seem to remember someone did a post a long time ago that they manufactured the fluxgate for Navico but can't find it. Anyway, possible solution is to use a hand held
GPS we have and get the
NMEA data from that. Can't find much info on the TP300C as in the version of
NMEA they used, so compatability may be an issue. At least it will be a permanent supply for the
GPS if all else fails.
Thanks for the response
