Navico anemometer

I have a Navico model ATM600 anemometer that is inoperable. The display module indicates that no signal is coming from the masthead unit. I have no circuit diagram for this unit and can’t figure out how to disassemble it to investigate its principles of operation eg. is there a reed switch that could be defective? Help.

Re: Navico anemometer

No reed switches; the anemometer uses a hall effect sensor. The Corus system is all canbus therefore it is all digital. Unless you're an electronics technician there is likely no fixing it.

Have you checked all the connectors in the cable? Especially the one at the masthead... all subject to deterioration. May be splices or a junction box at the base of the mast, too.

A new B&G is only $500, what are you waiting for? Oh and you'll need a display too, that's another $500. Oh yeah and a NMEA2000 backbone, thats about $200 more. Yeah, $1200 what are you waiting for?

You know, some pro techs actually offer helpful advice here on CF...

Jim
I provide plenty of helpful advice and I will continue to provide helpful advice but I don't have to be a stick in the mud to do so.

Is this not helpful? You now know that a new B&G wind system costs $1200 if your starting with nothing. You also know what it takes to get a new system going.

What exactly was your contribution? Seems like you're initiating thread drift too me.

You can get an i40 with a Rotavecta for under $400. If that's too much you can put some yarn on the shrouds for free.

Most people don't even need a wind display; why get all fancy with the B&G.

Well, I did suggest checking all the connectors for corrosion... something that has caused issues on many masthead instruments and antennas. The OP was asking for help in diagnosing/fixing his existing instrument, so no drift there.

Your help? Suggesting that he spend 1200 bucks that he may or may not have in the budget. I would have hoped that a "professional technician" would have some more technical advice about troubleshooting the instrument. Guess not.

Sorry Jim. Didn't mean to upset the fun police.

Seems like the threads drifting again....
