My Furuno Nav-pilot 511 died Help in Vero Beach?

Happy Fourth of July!!!!

We just got back into the states today, after a while in the Exhumas. My Auto-Pilot, a Furuno Nav-pilot 511 quit functioning early last night. I had taken the boat off of auto, while sailing through a nasty gail in the gulf stream. When things calmed down, all I get is "Rudder Drive Error".

I am now in Vero Beach. Can anyone recommend someone who is good with these systems?

johnny, Th e first thing you might check is to see if the rudder position indicator either came loose or the rod broke off. Next I would suggest you ask at the local marinas in Vero for someone in the area. My guess would be that it might have to go to a Furuno service shop and that might be in Ft. Lauderdale. Just don't have someone specific for you. Give Furuno a call and they will give you their local people. Or try GT Marine Specialist in Fort Pierce.

What is the drive? If it says the drive has failed, then maybe the drive has failed :-)
If you let us know what the drive is (elec, Hyd) we maybe able to step you through a few tips to check it out.

A B&G Hydralic drive, with a valve to reverse flow...
