Mix 'n Match Newer Parts to Save Old Autohelm ?

Hi all -
Our 1980's version Autohelm 4000 finally died. The wheel pilot unit has a plastic sproket that is ground to pulp....dead dead dead.
I was trying to find a replacement wheel pilot seeing as the control unit is just fine.
Closest I can find is an Autohelm ST4000 MKII wheel drive only on ebay.
Could I use this wheel drive and just wire it in to the existing ancient Autohelm 4000?
Or do I have to bite the bullet and purchase a whole new autohelm?
Thanks,
dergon

Yes, you can use a mark II. The sprockets are sometimes on ebay.

Re: Mix 'n Match Newer Parts to Save Old Autohelm ?

The repeater control head unit for my Autohelm 6000 that is in my cockpit died. Manufacturer response was buy a whole new autopilot system . The autopilot unit still works fine ,looking to purchase a good used control unit for my Autopilot 6000 . I have been watching EBay ,no luck yet. Does anybody know if any other unit would be compatible ? The manufacturer says no.
