Misty Screen

Hi all

I have lately installed a hummingbird fish finder in my boat to be able to monitor the depth and speed among other..
I installed the screen on a swivelling arm against the inside of the companionway bulkhead to be able to put it out of the way when not in use.
30 minutes under way after the start up the screen begins to show fog from the inside of the glass ..
is that the effect of the sun and ambient humidity ?? aren't those devices supposed to be air tight ?? what do you suggest ??
thanks.

Georges

Well, you have two choices, take it back and swop if for a Garmin or open it up and stick it somewhere warm to dry it out for a couple of days. Never had much luck with Hummingbird stuff and had a series of there radios that failed despite being "water proof".

I would take pictures of the effect and if you have the opportunity send it back or trade it in.

I would not accept any excuse that it is "supposed" to be that way.

I am sure a product return from Lebanon is a PITA for you but...

this is definately a heat/humidity problem...why do marine mfrs. color their products in a dark tone (not all---icom, for one)? this absorbs heat from the sun and causes condensation build-up inside the unit. years ago, i had a garmin 75 handheld gps that fogged constantly (in fla). i sent it back 4-5 times and it fogged instantly after turning it on (within an hour)..they even replaced the unit and the new one did the same...my new one doesn't do it but my hummingbird fish finde just started to do it (after 15 yrs)... sheeeeesh, gremlins...
