I looked at one today. In order to use the high resolution you have to download a 3rd party software package (free). Apple runs the Retina display at somewhere around 1400 x 1200. I forget the exact resolution. The salesman said there was a rumor that one of the major graphics packages was going to be released optimized for the high res. display.
