Looking to install a forward looking sounder

Does anyone have experience in these? I am looking at EchoPilot for example.

Is it practical to have both vertical and forward looking transducers?

I am mostly concerned about objects that are floating just below the surface when sailing offshore.

Re: Looking to install a forward looking sounder

I have an echopilot FLS. For floating objects it's not effective.

Where it's good is in reef country. Spotting bombies etc. In shoal water it's range is limited to about 4-5 times the depth.

I have both forward and normal vertical depth sounders, with transducer fitted in each hull. They both work fine, and don't interfere with each other.

Re: Looking to install a forward looking sounder

I also use Echopilot FLS.
It can not spot shallowly floating objects, as it work at an angle rather, than horizontally.
I use it for checking anchorages and it is good for this.

Best regards
