Re: Looking for used CPT autopilot or parts

CPT have guidelines for assessing if the unit is worth servicing.

Their costs may be reasonable.

Caveat: I am the (mostly) happy owner of a CPT autopilot.

Mine no longer works....looks like it is a circuit issue. So, I wouldn't spend too much on a used one. Mine was $500, and lasted less than 6 months before death.

Would you be interested in selling the unit ?

Re: Looking for used CPT autopilot or parts

funjohnson - send the whole unit back to cpt. they checked and serviced mine for $150. i've used it for years and love it. of course i'd have a belowdecks pilot if money was no issue but i'm very happy with the cpt. just did 48 hours dead downwind and it never missed a beat. i've had it for ten years now.

for instructions on returning the unit for service go to -

www.cptautopilot.com/service.php

or just check out the website here -

www.cptautopilot.com

two engineers bought the company a few years ago. when you call them you don't get the customer service rep - you get the engineer who owns the company.

Thanks for the assistance. Ours is a back-up to our 1 year old below deck unit, and I hoped to never need it.

Unfortunately, we are actively cruising and can't easily send it in for repair... or know where we will be whenever it gets fixed. I'm instead trying to find someone with old fashion electronics repair skill (fine soldering) and maybe fix it in the islands. They are suppose to be pretty basic inside.

Matt
