Continuing my last post!!

Phiggins...I'm now running SeaFarer with your simulator(Mondays version) just sending gps messages, as you suggested. Works alright.

I notice that all the built in AIS ships has disappeared from the screen except for the first vessel in the list. This is more or less what I expected once external data comes into play.

With "View --> Nav Info" set I get an interesting depth reading:
4.51561e-311 meters.
There is something wrong with the navigation! The vessel must be on someones lawn and measure the depth of the dew!!

Post SeaFarer for Linux

We are sorry about the confusion. We monitor our community site for requests for assistance on using the Free version of SeaFarer.

There seems to be an issue with the database that was included with the download. Deleting the file /opt/seafarer/seafarer.db should solve the problem. You will need to re-index your charts after deleting the file.

Same problem after deleting the db and reindexing the charts:

SQL error: near "'48.157718'" : syntax error
Segmentation fault

Seafarer

Barco has got Seafarer working properly now on the XO OLPC. Patrick Cannon provided exceptional support to get it working. He should be publishing the new version on their site soon.

My simulator now works with it. If you want to see what it looks like with both AIS and GPS, try out my simulator at: Navigation Aids

Regarding the previous message. I have Seafarer only working on Ubuntu on the XO. I haven't been able to figure out all the dependencies to get it work on Sugar/Fedora...yet.

I also get to like that sw after playing with it on Ubuntu 7 for a day. Thanks for the hints about missing libs! I also had the SQL error at first... Fixed it by changing the ownership of /opt/seafarer. The archive unpacks it with userid 1000, which might not even exist. On my box, it was the user "camera" .
Go figure.

Anyhow, I noticed some references to doco but wasn't able to find any (for the free version) for the life of me! Anyone has a URL for me?

Ta,
heinz
