Linux-based Nautical Chart images?

Hey Folks,
I know there's a lot of open source chartplotter software out there, such as OpenCPN, but I'm hoping to find something more specific. Is there a way to automatically get these programs to output a png, jpg or gif file on demand, based off of GPS coordinates? I ask because I'm building a small display for the boat, and would much prefer a nautical chart over a regular google maps one, and to not rely on an internet connection. Ideally, this is to serve over a tcp connection to a kindle to display along with speed and course.

I of course, have multiple backups, this is just a fun side-project. Here's an example of what I have so far: Bad Wolf

This grabs my latest GPS coordinates from the APRS netowkr (Ham Radio network), and populates the website on-demand with the closest tidal station, google maps and weather.
