Lightning, please equate this for me...

Early eighties, USN, Destroyer tender. Asked about the lightning strikes all around us (deck division, BM). Told to not even worry about it, cannot happen. Believed it, found it to be true. The waterspout that fell in love with our boiler waste heat column worried me to no end, lightning, not.

Late eighties, out on the bosses large power boat. Lightning and front move in typical 16:30 change in the weather in NE FLA. WOT to the inlet, time to head home anyway. Every strike in visible range lights up the wheel. A good static zap.

Grounding?
