Re: Laser security system

It's amazing what you can get when money is no object!

Of course, there will probably come a day when it is affordable to non-billionaires.

Looks like my bridge could use some updating after looking at the link...

Maybe you could mod one of them to detect and alarm imminent keel impacts...

(I may have visited an old thread recently...)

Re: Laser security system

Maybe they will sell a few but I wouldn't bet on it. We are around quite a few super and mega yachts and they have excellent security when their guests are on board. With gangways they are either raised, retracted, or someone is standing guard. Most of these owners don't even leave the boat without security joining them. If not for security but to also pay the bills because god forbid they should dirty their hands with actual cash.

I'm holding out for sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads….

Re: Laser security system

The laser systems are easy to defeat, as shown in this video, starting at 1:30.

This video shows the proper pronunciation of Laser.

Re: Laser security system

Myth Busters did an episode on Laser security systems. Bottom line: they make for cool movie scences, but are not used much in the real world because there are more effective options.

Like sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads

For us budget boaters, they will come attached to ill-tempered mutated sea bass...

Re: Laser security system

Frugal yacht owner that I am, I think I'll stick with my good old BTIA (Bear Trap Intruder Alert) System, thank you. Strategically positioned at the foot of a gangway or hatch, it never fails to produce a hi-pitched intruder warning when activated, and requires absolutely no maintenance. In fact, the old rusty ones seem to produce a higher pitched singal than the newer ones. Go figure.

Re: Laser security system

Not as good a defense system as this laser.
