large instrument mast mount display

I'm purchasing a new boat (34 footer) essentially to race some regattas. The boat has very little electronics, so I would like to install a couple of large instrument repeaters on the mast. I have been researching larger instrument displays for mast mounting ( Tacktick, Velocitek, B&G, Nexus and NKE). I'm amazed at the price, USD 800 -1500 per display seems to be the starting price for what is essentially a NMEA repeater.

Do you know a cheaper alternative? I know that there are some DIY projects, but I'm looking for something commercial in the usd 200-300 range.
