It's USB and NMEA 0183 compatible so it should be, theoretically. The issue is going to be making the connection. You'll need a USB to NMEA 183 cable (~$30). Also the radio requires the GPS source to have NMEA output turned on and set to 4800 Baud. That might be the default on the 78, if there is no way to set it, dunno.

What is "DSC+"? Digital Selective Calling is categorized by class. The GX1150 radio is qualified to DSC Class-D. The radio has NMEA-0183 input and output.

A Garmin GPSMAP 78 has a NMEA-0183 interface. To use it, a $36 accessory cable is needed:

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/pn/010-11131-00

On the basis that both devices support NMEA-0183, they should be able to be interconnected using that protocol.

I do not see any basis that a USB interface will be involved, nor will there be any reason to obtain a USB to NMEA-0183 conversion device.

For advice on making NMEA-0183 interconnections between devices using a simple, consistent, and reliable method, see

Hey Continuos Wave!
Thanks for your reply! Sounds like that should get everything working! As far as DSC+ is concerned, that's just what it says on the faceplate of the radio. I don't know anymore about it than that. I'm going to order that cable from Garmin and we should be in business!
Cheers!
