Is a DC TO DC 12V Regulator / Converter Required?

I have a new TEAC 22" LCD TV that can operate both on main power and 12v DC.

Today, I read the following:

Many LCD TV's utilise a 12volt plug pack to run them from the mains (230v AC) supply.
Therefore it would appear that this should allow you to connect the set directly to your vehicle's 12v system.
However, your vehicle's system will fluctuate from 11v to 14.5v during normal use.
Most TVs are not designed to cope with these voltage fluctuations.
Whilst initially the set may work correctly, in many cases gradual damage is occurring such as burnt out screen pixels etc.

Anyone know how valid and/or critical this issue would be? I'd hate to damage and/or destroy a brand new LCD TV!

According to the Owner’s Manual, the TEAK “LCD-22ID” is designed to operate on 15VDC.

I know a number of people including myself that have been running LCD monitors from ships power for multiple years without any problems. You can probably run your system this way but I'm sure the manufacturer will not honor your warranty if they know about it.

I do worry about it for running a 12 volt PC, so I have a 12v - 12v dc converter. Mine was made by Hewlett packard for their early laptops and handles 3 amps. There are others available for different loads.
