Iridium: programs for crossing atlantic

Good day to all.

I am crossing the atlantic in about a month and for that reason I have bought an iridium extreme. I will be receiving grib files on an email I will define on my domain servers.

I have a 1 year old mac.

I want to know which programs I need to have on my computer so that I can cheek my mail. Also I think I would need some program to shut down all other programs on my mac that connect to the internet for updating purposes or other.
