This is a pretty old conversation but I read it with a lot of interest. We have never gotten into the price
range of those fruit computers
. But we have Android tablets. Last summer the NOAA released a beta chartplotter
app for Android that we got. There is 1,023 NOAA charts
available for it along with their Coastal Pilot references
for the charts
you download to it.
It's all free.
We used it all last summer alongside our CP190 chartplotter
and the Android ended up being actually better than the chartplotter. It has a bigger screen
with higher resolution and can show more detail. And it's easier to use because it's touch screen
, just as bright and easy to read in sunlight, and in most situations was faster than the chartplotter when switching screens or chart resolution. It doesn't have grounding alarms and 3D and a bunch of the other useless stuff that chartplotters have, but overall we were happy with it.
Just curious if other folks use that Android app, or if everybody uses the Apple stuff. I would not spend the money
on a chartplotter anymore.
