Ok, so should we all agree to buy our kids boats instead of cars when they turn 16? :P

Seriously ... a self-organizing network where each cruiser would "earn" some cash for the transport of data. What would be required :

- some hubs on land
- a lot of cruisers
- for better range zeppelins or kite should be used
- an organization which does the billing

Sounds strange but same idea is being discussed for mobile networks in order to reduce repeaters. Of course it would be difficult/not possible to have full world wide coverage. But at least this network could provide the current coverage of Globalstar at a much lower price.

Also would help a lot of cruisers which need some cash (see cruising on $500 per month ...)

Well, if you ARE an intra-day trader then you WILL probably need access much faster and more reliable than the wi-fi offered in e.g. marinas. And a back-up perhaps.

Probably buy adsl / cable wherever you come, use wifi and mobile as back up. You can also use Bgan (or whatever the correct spelling is) anywhere else.

Out at sea you have the Inmarsat broadband.

If it were viable, it would have already been here.
