Inmarsat Isat Phone Pro Firmware Update

I've received the following e-mail regarding a firmware update for the Isatphone Pro.

Thought I'd pass it on for any owners who may not have received the e-mail.

A new mandatory firmware upgrade for IsatPhone Pro (to version 5.3.0) has been released to prevent users being impacted by a fault in product operation and planned network enhancements. It is available for download now.
The update is for the following reasons:
  1. Inmarsat are improving the iSatPhone Pro system and this update is required by all iSatPhone pro handsets to allow them to keep operating with the Inmarsat system beyond 31 December 2013.
  2. Fix charging issue via mains charger when battery is flat.
For handsets in the field, Inmarsat recommends that customers upgrade their phones to this release at the earliest opportunity.

Please follow the steps below to download and install the latest firmware update:
The handset must be running firmware version 3.0.2 or above.
You do not need to install all firmware versions between 3.0.2 and 5.0.0.
To check your phone's firmware version, go to Menu > Settings > About > Firmware version.

In order to upgrade the handset's firmware you must have a PC running Windows 7, Windows Vista or XP. For Windows 7 users, the latest version of USB drivers and IsatPhone Pro's firmware upgrade tool must be installed.
While performing the firmware update the iSatPhone pro and the laptop should have a fully charged battery. Power failure to the PC or the iSatPhone pro, or the unplugging of the USB cable between the PC and the iSatPhone Pro may leave the phone in a state where it requires return to the manufacturer in Europe for factory re-burn.
The upgrade deadline has been set as 31 December 2013. As previously notified, users will experience problems connecting to the network if the upgrade is not done before 31 December 2013.

Re: Inmarsat Isat Phone Pro Firmware Update

I don't have an IsatPhone Pro, however I will say that the links to the firmware e.t.c. look very dodgy.
Go to the Inmarsat website and click on support
The URL I have for the firmware is http://www.inmarsateu.net/IsatPhone_...sion_5_3_0.zip

Note that the domain name is Inmarsat

I have just checked the firmware, it is identical to the 'official' Inmarsat version, but you never know, with that domain name it could have been a forgery. Why do these companies do this ?
