Re: Icom IC-M45 CHANGING MMSI

In the USA:

WHEN YOU SELL YOUR DSC RADIO OR BOAT:
You cannot remove the MMSI number from the radio’s memory.
The new owner MUST update the MMSI information.
Incorrect information will be transmitted during a distress alert and delay rescue.

Q: How can I make changes to my registration?
A: If any information such as phone numbers, emergency contacts or boat information has changed since you registered, be sure to log in with your previously chosen login & password and choose “Edit Registration” from the menu screen. You may then make changes to your registration as necessary. Please note you would not be able to change Owner or Login Name without assistance from the system manager. The Icom M-45 is NOT a DSC radio, and therefore doesn't have an MMSI#....So something is not correct here...

Not sure what model Icom radio you have, but if it is an older DSC model, be aware than many older VHF-DSC radios (all of the "basic" or low-priced radios) that were sold in the US during much of the 2000's, were NOT full Class D DSC radios, but rather SC-101 radios that do NOT have a dedicated ch. 70 DSC receiver (but uses the main receiver to occasionally scan ch. 70 looking for DSC calls....and of course, also cannot rec DSC calls when transmitting...)
Just thought you (and others) should be aware of why there are many used VHF radios being sold for VERY low prices these days....

If it were me, I'd make sure whatever radio you have is a Class D VHF-DSC radio / look at the manual (and/or service manual) for info on how-to reprogram the MMSI# (which you can usually only program in twice, so hopefully you are only the second owner/user...)

Also, although I usually admire Gord's wonderful info....
Please get your MMSI# (for whatever DSC radio you have), from your nation's radio licensing authority (in the US, that is the FCC), this is included with your ships station license....

http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/ind...=ship_stations

These are the only MMSI#'s that are internationally recognized and stored in the int'l database....

Also, if you wish to learn about DSC in an easy way, please have a look at these videos....I think you'll like 'em...

EDIT:
FYI, I thought you may wish to read some additional info....

http://www.icomcanada.com/pdf_manual/marine/ic-m45a.pdf

http://www.thiecom.de/ftp/icom/m45/i...5-manual-e.pdf

I hope this helps...

Fair winds...

John

Re: Icom IC-M45 CHANGING MMSI

Ok guys, i saw that i don't have distress button, and if this button is missing is very clear that my vhf doesn't have dsc controller.

Thanks guys!
