Mic cords are a constant challenge, but the 802 is a particular nuisance - which is perhaps why they will fix it free.
You've
solved your immediate problem; use the box you get with the new mic and send it off and they'll send you a new (not 'fixed') one for a spare.
That's the sequence I used when I was actively cruising and didn't want to wait; I have my backup in my nav desk, ready for the inevitable failure (that assumes I'll ever
cruise again, not a certainty of late)
