Hydrophobic Nanocoating spray

I don't know if anyone has seen this but this looks like a prime product to treat the motherboard of an onboard computer with.. this stuff looks amazing.

I can think of at least 100 things I want to try this on already, and I just saw the video on their news page.

Yea... last I heard it was bought up by Rustoleum. They are supposed to be productizing it but its been at least 2 years. I guess they figured out that once you paint something with it... you'll never need to buy another Rustoleum product again!

They don't market it as such. Which makes me think it wouldn't work as an anti fouling coating. Read on CF somewhere that it requires contact with air to work properly. I know that is the case with other ultra-hydrophobic coatings.

No, because there needs to be an air interface with the painted surface.

But its gotta be soon!

If you use it on the bottom the boat will just jump back out of the water.

Re: Hydrophobic Nanocoating spray

This stuff is incredibly compelling for uses like coating spinnakers, the leather chafing patches on sails, leather covers on our wood blocks, etc. but I would be concerned about exposure to this stuff over time. I wonder if anyone's done any real studies on exposure to this stuff.

Re: Hydrophobic Nanocoating spray

It apparently doesn't have any abrasion resistance... so what I thought would be a very useful tool, isn't really.

Yes, but neither does McLube and it's the cat's balls on a chute, especially the bottom couple rows of panels.

If you spray your hull with it, your boat tips over and won't right.

That's perfect... since my boat leans to port, I can spray a bit on the starboard to level it out.
