How to reduce AIS clutter on my B&G Zues?

I have AIS turned on of course on my Zues Chartplotter. When I zoom out, saying looking at a harbor, all you see is a black mass of triangles.

Is there is a setting where I can turn off AIS showing if boats are more than a certain distance away. I do want to see boats within a few miles, but 5 or 10 mi away, I can't drop a waypoint on the screen.

Thanks

you can change it to show only boats not moving, or below a certain speed.

Mine is set up I believe to only show ones with a min CPA and time, I think .
But that may be the alarm setting, but you can easily declutter it

Go to the setting and find the Vessels option. There is a Icon filter option there that you can hide some vessels.

Agree.

From the Zeus3 Operator's Manual:
Icon filters
By default, all targets are shown on the panel if an AIS device is connected to the system.
You can select not to show any targets, or to filter the icons based on security settings,
distance, and vessel speed.

I recommend the OP download and read the manual. You can also view the manual from your chartplotter, but it's not as easy to use as compared to a PDF on a laptop IMO.

Re: How to reduce AIS clutter on my B&G Zues?

Have a zues 2. Have read manual. Many times. Have had 3 sw updates in past 3 years, very little updates to the manuals.

If anyone knows the setting, would appreciate knowing them .

Have been thru the menus on the zues 2 many times, can only find how to set alarms, not how to filter what shows.

Is this on zues settings, or something else.

Try downloading the Z3 manual and see if the Z2 has the setting.

I am going to assume it is like my Vulcan.

I shot this video showing how it is done on mine. Should be similar

Re: How to reduce AIS clutter on my B&G Zues?

Just saw my video on a PC, it is not as in focus as I thought.

I assume the Zeus is similar to the Vulcan.
  • Main Menu
  • Gear icon on the top left ('settings')
  • scroll to vessels
  • Icon filters

If you figure it out, let us know.

Thanks, will try this when back down at the boat. Didn't think to look in the vessels icons, but that sure makes sense.

Go Pats!
