Re: HF reciever

In the HF receiver shop.....

No kidding...get a second hand mobile HAM rig like Yaest FT-857 or FT 897 or Icom or kenwood.
Lots to find.

Start using it only as a receiver with simple wire antenna and get acquainted with HF-SSB on marine and hAM bands.
Later get a absic Ham license and improve the antenna system and you will have HAM SSB plus the possibility to use it on marine frequencies in an emergency.

That is my advice....

Re: HF reciever

They dont sell them in many places so its a buy off the internet or order in..

I use a Sony World Band Receiver ICF-SW7600GR

Remember that many world receivers dont have a Upper or Lower side band selector so cant pick up SSB transmitions.

Having used it in the Pacific and South East Asia can I tell you that theres NO real weather available unless you are ff the Australian coast. Asian countries dont put weather out on HF. The USA stuff is only detailed in their coverage areas.

Its not even very good for news anymore as most countries have scrapped their HF services... or they switch frequencies and times so much that they are a dead pain to keep up with!

I would be buying a satellite phone so you can download GRIB files and have someone SMS you for free from home.

Re: HF reciever

We have a NASA receiver and they sell online. I have seen exact 'copies' sold by Sitex.
