Help with TV

The boat I bought has a Sharp LC-20S1E television. It is a european TV accepting PAL signals. It won't work with the USA's NTS signals.

Any ideas about how to convert it? If possible I'd like to convert it so I don't have to modify the mounts, etc.

Thanks in advance,
Duane

Re: Help with TV

A bit more info:

I'm using the TV with a mast mounted antenna. Is the antenna specific to PAL or NTSC?

Re: Help with TV

If its an LCD, you should be able to adjust it in the setup menu

Antennas just pick up signals and don't know the difference between NTSC and PAL

Re: Help with TV

If "set-top" tuners are available in your area that would normally be a lot cheaper than a new tv and no loss of quality.
Tv's AV channel should accept PAL or NTSC input I think.
Manual should be on line.

Re: Help with TV

For just of $100 buy a new HD tv, add a $35 100 watt inverter and you are boat ready. US tv frequencies may be a little different making antenna not as good but most likely it will work fine.

Re: Help with TV

On the menu there should be a "First Installation" option which puts you into the menu which lets you change language, country, colour system and sound systme

Stu,

There is a "first installation" in the menu, but it only gives the option of PAL or SECAM.

Adding to the confusion the manual (still in the boat from 2005) states the
Colour system is PAL/SECAM/NTSC. However the menu doesn't give you a choice for NTSC.

Contact the manufacturer and ask if it can be converted and how. They probably have a customer service department.

Just looked on ebay, tuners around $25.
AV input accepts NTSC according to manual.

Re: Help with TV

It's an old telly. Double check it can receive digital transmissions. Your mount may not be vesa standard ( to suit a new TV), but they are usually close enough to be modified with a drill and file. I went through the same exercise a couple of years ago.

Re: Help with TV

Consider removing the TV from your boat. You really don't need it for anything. Plus not watching it frees you up to do all kinds of other cool things while cruising. For example, just sitting out topside enjoying a fabulous evening in a spectacular location.

Just a WAG: Does it give the option of NTSC if you change the Country setting?
