GPS 19x HVS bidirectional data

I have recently got myself a new GPS receiver and I'm surprised at the number of data connections is has, being merely a receiver.

I would like to know what is the purpose of all the data cables. I am intending to connect it to a nmea multiplexer and for this I would only need a single TX out from the reciever.

Why does it have a second TX out and two RX connections? What information would a chart plotter give to the GPS receiever and why would it need two connections?

I could imagine one being used for firmware upgrades.

Re: GPS 19x HVS bidirectional data

it has one Tx and one rx (pos and neg wires for each)

not sure what the rx is for. probably updates like you said. or to restart / reboot gps (normally an option in the gps screen)

Re: GPS 19x HVS bidirectional data

Information I got by enquiring with Garmin was that it can be used to update the devices firmware only, when plugged into a Garmin chartplotter.
