@chipg, I want a mount on the rail that is steady to the horizon while the boat heels. My homemade idea should work out, as soon as I have the time to devote to it. What are your thoughts? I'm open to suggestions.

Sorry for the delay, missed the thread, normally I'll get an email update for a thread I post in.

Buy a steady cam for $99 and mount the handle on an arm to something fixed. Very simple, goto YouTube and type in steady cam DIY, you'll understand how it works and can prob make one for cheaper.

Off topic but I forgot about my post here a while ago about the go pro hd cam that was sent into outer space for less than $1k, you can google it or look it up on vimeo or you tube, it's pretty impressive.
