Garmin Radar's

Who has experience with them. I am thinking of switching radars, How are the LCD color units by Garmin. My current unit is a Raymarine SL72 and it is down below not visible at the helm and currently not functional. I am considering a Garmin Chart plotter at the helm that accepts their Radome.

Thoughts on the Garmin's operating and output, satisfaction with or dislikes.

Thanks

Best units are Furuno followed by Raymarine. Check the reprints at Practical Sailor.

Garmin did well, the size of there dome (there 4kw is the size of every most others 2kw units) may have some advantages that might you might way over other considerations.. I would also say the Garmin software is a bit more intuitive then others but Raymarine is the best integrated system including integration with there Autopilot. Furuno is at the top for Radar but when your building a package there may be other considerations

I do have a Raytheon Auto Pilot, I'll have to consider that.

There was a good article in the Oct. Issue of CW that tested a bunch of Radar units. Although it focused on 2kW vs. 4kW power, it did have some comments and analysis on the different mfgs. Might be worth a look. If my recollection is correct, Garmin had somewhat of a "fuzzy" readout as compared to the same power Furuno and Raymrine units.
