Garmin GPS to Pedestal Guard Mount

I am wanting to mount my Garmin echoMap to the Edson pedestal guard.
I like the Edson 3" mounting platform but the $120 (West Marine) is a bit much.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks.

West marine sells plastic rail clamps for $25. You can cut a piece of wood or starboard to serve as a platform and attach it to a clamp. Not as neat as Edson, but quite a bit cheaper.

Another idea: Chart Plotter Mount For Edson Pedestals Photo Gallery by Compass Marine How To at pbase.com. The stainless shaft collars that he uses are pretty expensive, but you can substitute nylon for a lot less.

Re: Garmin GPS to Pedestal Guard Mount

I have Snapit cup holder and winch handle pocket mounted on my pedestal, have been pleasantly surprised with the quality, good bang for the buck.

Re: Garmin GPS to Pedestal Guard Mount

I went with the mount from Compass Marine (link from Ziggy in post #2). I also thought the collars were too expensive and found alternate options here Marine Part Depot. They are also a good source for SS bimini top hardware and all sorts of bits and pieces. Fast shipping and so far the quality is holding up well.

I would not use the little round mount to put the GPS on the top of the pedestal guard. A lot of people refer those as a grab bar for obvious reasons. Also a good place to get snagged by a loose main sheet or anything else. My opinion 99% something will happen to rip the GPS off a top mount.

I went with my version of this. I have a sloped guard, so I made adapter wedges. I then screwed the mount to the wood base. I remove the chart-reader when not in use. (You can see it in the attached picture if you tip your head. Don't know why upload is rotating the photo, it is right-side up on my laptop...)

I was in a music shop the other day... Amazing number of mounts for electronics! Alco bicycle shops.

Re: Garmin GPS to Pedestal Guard Mount

I ordered the Snapit pedestal guard mount and it worked great.
Snapit Pedestal Guard Mounted Rectangular Mounting Pad
Cost $24.95 with shipping total $41.17

Went to Walmart and bought a white polymer cutting board (~ $8) and made a platform so that I could mount a Garmin 741xs. The cutting board was cut down to 7" by 4". Jig saw worked great, then used a rasp to smooth the edges, then sanded the edges. The Garmin was mounted to the cutting board and the cutting board was mounted to the Snapit mounting pad. Used #8 SS screws and nuts for securing the cutting board to the Snapit. The Garmin was attached with #8 SS screws and wing nuts so the move Garmin when not underway.

Overall, this worked great for me and Frolic 34 O'Day.

Another source for the mounting pad:

Re: Garmin GPS to Pedestal Guard Mount

I mounted a 3 space Nav pod across my guard and mounted the echo map right to the top . I have my wind and depth in the nav pod makes a nice easy package.
wires terminate in a term strip inside the nav pod for power and Niema

Click on the photo twice and it turns the correct way. Odd, but it works.

Re: Garmin GPS to Pedestal Guard Mount

I purchased the Edson 3 inch mounts from Defender for $100 which is expensive but they are solid quality SS and are adjustable. Worth the cost , look great, and fit my Garmin 7208 perfectly. Go for quality and you wont be disappointed.
