Garmin GPS II plus powers on then immediately off

Each and every time.
It worked a few years ago.
I have held onto this as a backup device.
so any ideas? When it powers on you see the globe screen for about 2 seconds then it dies.

It is running off the cord with no batteries.
I will check with batteries inside.

Some cable powered units have a small 'memory' battery (button size) inside (e.g. some Raymarine). When this battery goes flat, the units behave in a way similar to what you described.

Look inside your Garmin - maybe it too has such a battery. You will likely find a replacement on the aftermarket.

Cheers,
barnie

OLD, like more than 10 years?
It is a 12 SAT GPS which can output NMEA serial to a computer.

Re: Garmin GPS II plus powers on then immediately off

just asked because my magellan backup did the same thing after 2000. evidently it wasnt programmed to exceed that date.... basically it was new never used except to test occasionally...
