I went ahead and ordered the Garmin 526s without the transducer from Boaters World $866. I figured I could figure out a way to slave my Raymarine unit to the Garmin, if not no big deal I'll buy a transducer for the Garmin and throw the Raymarine over board. Just kidding on the overboard thing.

Ok now that you all know your dealing with the impaired I have yet another question.

What is DSC?

DSC: Digital Selective Calling

DSC allows you to address your VHF hail to a specific vessel (a bit like like a cell phone), but more importantly, to initiate a distress call with a push of a button. A DSC distress call can automatically include the GPS coordinates of the vessel and ID.

See https://www.navcen.uscg.gov/marcomms/gmdss/dsc.htm

xm weather?

Can anyone share experiences with Garmin and the xm weather option? Living in FL and heading to the bahamas next year, I was considering this option.

thanks!
