Garmin GMI 20 & WSO100?

Looking for a little advise/help.

I am thinking about getting a Garmin GMI 20 and using it with a Maretron WSO100 weather station for wind/weather info. Kind of new to NMEA 2000 so I have a few questions:

1. Has anyone done this? Any calibration issues with the WSO?
2. Do you normally run the NMEA2000 backbone up the mast (~50 ft)

I haven't done it, but both Garmin and Maretron are very good about following the NMEA 2000 standard, so chances are it will work fine. I would bench test them before installing on the boat so I could return one or both in case of a problem.

Yes, the backbone cable runs up the mast. There is a special inline termination resistor that allows connection of the wind sensor to the backbone without using a t-connector.

I have the WSO100 on my masthead but I'm using the Maretron DSM150. You will need an inline terminator at both ends of the backbone As well as the power Tee. As for the Garmin display, I don't know.

Delmarrey, how do you like the DSM150? Do you also have depth/speed hooked up to it? If so how does it all work.

You can calibrate the WSO100 using Maretron's free software on your computer. Alternately, the GM10 probably has offset functions in its set-up menus. This won't calibrate the sensor itself, but will display the corrected data.

I bought it strictly for the WSO100. The color schemes and brightness worked out great for the night runs.

For my 60' mast I bought the 25m and still ended up 10' short. But it worked out fine. That's where I T'd in the power.

For true wind I would have to have other instruments on the backbone so it could calibrate.

I got the GWS-10 / GMI 10 bundle and it came with a long cable for the wind instrument. Not sure about the standalone version. Might check before you purchase a separate cable.

I took a look at that set up, but want to get away from the seagull perch. The WSO100 is ultrasonic so no more broken cups.

I got my Maretron cable and fittings from iMarine. They seem to have the best prices on this coast. The 25m cable came with one end casted on for less then $100. And bought field connectors for doing shorter runs.
