Garmin C maps to computer

I have a Garmin Chart plotter GPS with a C chart,

It has a Blue Chart Data card,
Is there some thing I can buy to be able to plug it into my computer by USB,
So I can see the details on the card on my computer,

Thanks,
Brian,

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

Garmin BlueChart and Cmap are 2 different things
Garmin are now using BlueChart G2, the old version is redundant

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

I have a preprogrammed card, But it does not fit any thing I have to plug it into my computer,

The Data card is a bit different in size to an XD card.
Is there some thing that takes the Data card so that I can plug it into my PC,

This is a piccy of the unit and the Data card,

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

That model is pretty old, they where around in 2004 and have been a discontinued item for some time >> https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=159

Also there have been no updates/downloads since 2007 >> http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=53 and it appears they were a few prior to that, do you know if these where done ?

When you go into this page and try to enter the model you have, it doesn’t accept it >> https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do?null&ra=true

On the above page it also says "If you want to update the preloaded maps that came on your device, visit our Map Update page” which is here >> https://my.garmin.com/maps/chooseDeviceType.htm?# once in there you will find that your chart card is not available either....

Personally i wouldn’t persist with such an outdated unit, i would be upgrading to a one that is still widely supported....

Also the charts do not seem to be C-MAP, after digging through the Jeppesen site i cannot find a Garmin unit that they supply charts for >>

http://ww1.jeppesen.com/documents/marine/light-marine/FullCompatabilityListAug09.pdf

http://ww1.jeppesen.com/documents/marine/light-marine/OEMCPGrid_web.pdf

I could be wrong about the C-MAP and Garmin connection though, as i have never had a Garmin.....

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

These are the two I have, Fiji to new Caledonia and the East Coast of Australia,
They are both July 2008.
They are outdated, I know that,

But I was hoping to get the info out of them onto my computer, As they have where I have been on them,

The card wont fit my computer and I cant connect any of my system to a computer either,

I will have to buy a new GPS and new charts when I get my boat fixed,

As I dont know if they would still supply an updated chart for my Unit any way, Probably not, Obsolecentious,

The map on my Laptop is a different map entirely, Different company made that one,

I will look into those places you have shown on your post, But the Garmin sites I have been on, Dont show any thing that I can plug this card into,

Thanks for your help,
Im sorry if I come across as a smart arse, Its just the terminology I use, And this stuff is really beyond my knowledge, I really dont know what half this stuff is really called, or its correct terminology,

I can only go on what I have been told it is,

I don't think the plotter stores the tracks on the data cards. If you want your tracks and waypoints you'll need to attach the plotter to the computer and pull the tracks and waypoints out using a Garmin route and waypoint manager program. Then there are ways to convert these into formats usable by other programs.

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

Apologies Brian i thought you wanted to keep using the unit, hence why i posted a few reasons why i wouldn't....

As Sailmonkey says you would need the Garmin route and waypoint manager program to do what you want, but unfortunately i think you will still run into the age of the unit problem with it not been compatible with the software available >> https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=664

Maybe someone else knows of an aftermarket program that would help ??

I think your best bet though would be to phone them yourself and explain what you want, you never know they may have an older software program hidden away.....

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

First, do this to the GPS

http://www8.garmin.com/specs/pcwiring.pdf

Then buy something like this

Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Chipset) | Plugable

Attach the Garmin connector you've just made to the the USB/Serial adapter, then download this

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=664

and you've got your stuff.......

Then, you can upload to a new Garmin chartplotter later.......or if you're adventurous you can convert these files using another program and dump to any other chartplotter.

Re: Garmin C maps to computer

Mr B,

From your picture (post #3) it looks like you have one of the old style, proprietary, Garmin data cards. I believe you may just need a USB card reader. Garmin GPS data card USB programmer reader 010-10776-00 | eBay

You will need a Garmin application on your computer to see the charts. I use my old Garmin MapSourse program. (Check TheGPSstore.com, E-Bay, etc.) This also works for transferring, waypoints, routes and track between the two.
* Use a blank card to do the transferring

NOTE - Be sure that you do not delete the charts when transferring.

Thanks very much for this info,
This is what I need to get the GPS to transfer the info,
It also gives me some thing to work on,
It is very hard when you dont even know where to start looking, or what I am looking for,

It should be very easy now, I have this info, I probably have this equiptment already in my big box of cables from the previous owner,
Most of which I had no idea what it was for,
The P/O was very meticulous in his equiptment, He had a spare for everything,
So its good bet, That I have one of these cables,
I remember picking up a cable with a seven pin connection and thinking whats this gizmo do and or where does it go, and there is a lot of gear I have, thats in the same boat,
I just dont know whats its for, But it does connect to some thing on my boat.

Thank you all for your very valued assistance,

And keep in mind, I am a Roughie, so dont let my words upset you, It is not my intention, Its just the way I speak, Even face to face, People are very wary of me,

Cheers,
Brian,
