Garmin antenna connection

I am trying to replace my ancient Garmin GPS with a newer but still old Garmin. They both have a 1/4 turn connection and I am getting a message that there is no antenna connection. What is this terminal called and how do I get a new one? There is an old splice so I think that is the problem but would like to connect the antenna section direct to the GPS and eliminate the splice to verify. And can I disassemble the normal Garmin GPS antenna to check the internal connections? It is the normal white mushroom style.

Re: Garmin antenna connection

That connector is a BNC connector, and is pretty standard to GPS antennas. If you have a few days for delivery you can probably find a GPS antenna with 3m cable and BNC connector online for $10 or less. Connect that to your GPS and run the cable out a hatch or port. If it all works then you can start tracking things back and get a proper marine antenna/connection.

If you just want to replace the connector on your existing cable then search for a BNC connector, you can probably get one for a couple of bucks at Digi-Key or Mouser (or Radio Shack if any are still open).

Re: Garmin antenna connection

Thanks - just what I needed about the connection.

Now to see if I can get the actual antenna apart and check the connection inside.
