Garmin 440s Difficulty

We have a Garmin 440s which is causing us some concern. The depth will start flashing once you are in really deep water, (this is expected) however as one gets closer to shore, it does not come back it keeps flashing at the deeper depth. Sometimes a reboot of the device will get the depth back, sometimes one has to do this more than once.
Has anyone else run into this, or have a solution?
Cheers

Have you updated the firmware to the most recent version. We just bought ours a couple of weeks ago and the firmware was already outdated.

BTW makesure you buy the Homeport program from garmin if you want to view your charts on your PC. Works well. SD card only seems to work up to 2GB - my 8GB sd card couldn't be read.

Cheers,

What type of transducer do you have? Is there growth either on the transducer or on the hull (for in hull)? Amazing what a few barnacles can do.

Current firmware version is 5.20

You can download it https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/do...D=150&pID=8055

You will need a 2 GB SD card. Just run the program you download and it will copy the firmware to the sd card. Insert the sd card into your gps and presto it will update

Cheers,
Kevin

Re: Garmin 440s Difficulty

I have had a problem with my Garmin 441s flashing when I'm in shallow water. The Garmin tech support guy says to turn the gain to manual and back it off to about 7% - 10% so that the 500W of ping doesn't confuse the transducer.

Check to see that you're in manual if deep water is causing the problem, or turn up your manual setting a little bit. Hope this helps.

My 440s went completely out, tried the above did not work. Downloaded the previous Firmware and it started working again and then downloaded the current Firmware, works fine now. Used a 1 GB SD card
