Furuno Radar Cable

Hello all. Has anyone had any luck splicing a Furuno radar cable (1722C with 2.2kw radar). I am moving the unit from one boat to another and of course the wire is too short. Thanks. Pat

Not spliced one but can tell you how fragile they are. Each individual wire is about as strong as a hair

I've tried splicing some wiring of that guage in my VHF microphone with very poor results. Fortunately, the wife of a friend does electronic assembly and she was able to do a superb job. Personally, I'd either take it to an electronics repair center and have them solder each into a connector (preferably watertight) and then plug them together on the new boat. You might be able to do the job yourself if you have any skill in soldering things like 22 ga wire, but I would still suggest soldering each piece to a connector rather than directly.

I suppose you've already considered just buying a new cable? Pricey I'll bet.

I searched here a bit and seems it can be done, with lots of care....Yes the cable is $$. Just want to cover all my options. I will need 14 conductor with a small co ax cable to boot. That new cable is getting to sound more resonable, maybe.. Thanks.

I spliced the video cable (tiny coax). On my Furuno 1620 it's RG316. I used BNC coax connectors sized for RG316. Crimping was pretty easy with patience. Depending on how long you need to extend it, it might be easier to buy the extension cable from Furuno.

I spliced our Furuno cable, everyone advised against it but I had nothing to lose as it was cut when the mast was unstepped prior to shipping. I bought the correct size crimp connectors at Radio Shack (IIRC). I'ts been working just fine for almost three years now.

I need a Furuno 15 fot Radome cable or a 5 foot extension. I am scared to splice. Anyone have one?
