FP Tobago transducer

I suspect my ST50 transducer has failed as all I get is .2' depth reading. Rather than haul the boat to replace it, I have heard of an "in hull mount" transducer that will shoot through the hull. My question is do they work ok? I'm also told that if the hull below the water line is foam, that the foam must be cut away to the hull fiberglass. Thanks for any input.

No idea about the in-hull model. I would not just cut away to the second glass layer myself, however. If you insist, replace the foam with good glass.

I like your boat - same as mine 1996, Hull #72. Also, I replaced the wind speed and direction indicator, then found out afterward that I was experiencing a wire problem (wet connections under mast). You may wish to daylight the wires (eyeball them) before ordering a new transducer. However, you're getting a signal, albeit wrong, and that does suggest your diagnosis is correct.

I would check with Airmar to see what they suggest since they manufacture almost all transducers but for the most part thru the hull transducers are not recommended for cored hulls.
