Forward looking sonar

On my 1987 boat I have an Interphase Probe of which the readout has become too dark to read. Has anyone had good experience with a particular forward looking sonar? I have a 42 ft Chris Craft Catalina. I enjoyed the forward looking sonar which came with the boat when purchased 6 yrs ago.

Aging electronics are a problem for us, too, our Probe is also not working as new. I've been wondering whether there are any people around who like messing with such objects who could get them working again?

So far as I have been told, the fish finder ones do not have the forward range that our Probes had. So the picture for the future may be a bit grim. Our probe has kept us off reefs we couldn't see due to opacity of the water, so I appreciate your concern.

I am in the market to install a forward looking sonar and would love any update there might be to this thread. Also, if anyone knows how to maybe bum this thread for more exposure?
