Fixed VHF with GPS for DSC?

Hi,

I am curious if anyone is aware of a fixed mount VHF that has a GPS for the sake of DSC use ONLY.

I am aware of a handheld unit (SH850s) that has this feature but I am hoping to find a fixed mount that could take advantage of the mast height antenna.

I use a handheld GPS when needed and have no plans to install a chartplotter or any sort of fixed GPS receiver on board at this time BUT if I ever needed that DSC button I'd want it to broadcast my position as well.

Any suggestions?

Thx,
R

Hi,

I havent seen that kind of fixed DCS VHF. Also, you cannot use VHF antenna for GPS reception, GPS needs another antenna. I'd suggest using standard GPS receiver, even better if it is the same make as the VHF.

Small Raymarine DSC CHF and GPS receivers would be a good option, I've used both without any failures.

I am not aware of any either (but they could be available).
Another option could be a stand alone self contained GPS engine (with just 2 power wires and a NMEA data stream). This what I am using for the GPS input into my SSB DSC.
They should be available for a couple hundred dollars.

Pretty sure I saw one reviewed (a preview) recently in either Practical Boat Owner or Yachting Monthly. But I did not get much when I tried to Google it ...

Here's the Panbo review: http://www.panbo.com/cgi-bin/admin/m...garmin+vhf+gps

VHF with AIS plus DSC, and maybe a few more letters of the alphabet for $1000 List, but not released yet, so.....
