FCC-Issued MMSI in Another Country's Database

I recently obtained an FCC-issued MMSI for my vessel. I am waiting for it to show up in the database look-up of other countries. I anticipate it might take a month or two for the process to occur.

To test for the proper distribution of my data to other countries, I have been using a look-up page on-line at the ITU. The URL is

Particulars of Ship stations

I visit the website and enter my vessel callsign. It does not return any data. I presume someday it will.

I have also used another website, this one from Canada:

Ship Station MMSI | Spectrum Direct | Industry Canada

It is not clear to me if that search includes vessels from other countries or only Canadian vessels. But my US-vessel FCC-callsign does not return any data from it.

Since the principal reason I got an FCC-issued MMSI was to have it show up in the database of other countries, how will I know when that information has been distributed? Can I verify that on-line with my own search?

My call sign showed up in the ITU database years before the MMSI--it took a month after I sent a couple of emails to the FCC for the MMSI to appear.

Thanks for confirming that the callsign (and the MMSI) eventually showed up in the ITU database. Is the link I posted (above) the right place to look?

My FCC license was issued about 45 days ago. I am not impatient, but just curious where to confirm that the distribution has occurred.

My call sign and MMSI showed up in the ITU database about 6 weeks after issued back in 2006. I'm not in the Canadian database - I presume those are Canadian vessels only and Canadian RCCs use the ITU database.

So far the only place my new ship station license shows up is in the FCC search at

License Search - Ship License Search

UPDATE--I just checked again a few minutes ago, and I am now in the ITU database. The process seems to have worked. Good news!

My Ships Station license including MMSI number was issued by the FCC on Feb 3, 2011, and it appeared in the ITU database on Feb 21, 2011.

Re: FCC-Issued MMSI in Another Country's Database

It's hit and miss. The ITU database is supposed to be updated on a regular basis, but it sometimes isn't.

My MMSI number from the FCC didn't show up in the ITU database even some YEARS after it was issued. I sent an email directly to the ITU, with a link to the FCC database showing my registration. A couple of weeks later, my MMSI number appeared in the ITU database.

I gather from this experience, and that of others, that it's a good idea to check and see if your MMSI number appears in the ITU database and, if it doesn't, then send an email directly to the ITU so they can add it.

CW, Thanks for this post. It's always good to be able to check ones safety equipment whether mechanical or electronic.
