Experiences with Fleet Broadband 150/250?

I am considering getting onboard worldwide internet capability and am interested in hearing for any users as to their experiences.

Thanks

Can't answer your question, but count me in as interested too... Whenever I get my boat that'll be on my pre-launch checklist.

I work at a global wireless company that deals with merchant fleets and many of our customers are using FBB 250. It's a very reliable high end product with a small dish footprint. But it's also very expensive. Figure 7-15k for the install and then you'll be paying around $10-15 per MB downloaded.

We have special server setups that highly compress all email and web communications to the ships because it's so expensive. Also we put in place some very heavy firewalling restrictions to prevent things like Windows Update on a PC onboard from downloading 200 megs worth of updates and hitting a customer with 2-3k in charges.

The cost is very prohibitive for a typical cruiser. It's much more economical to setup your boat with long range wifi and cellular and simply use that for the 98% of the time you're sitting off the coast.
