EV-1 location on Monohull?

I cant find a reasonable location directly in the center.

We have a 13ft (4mtr) beam is it ok to mount it it about 4.5ft (1.4mtr) off center?

We do heel over a bit

Thanks

Re: EV-1 location on Monohull?

Same problem, had to accept an area with no metal objects and off center rather than exactly on the center line. Ended up fixing it in the roof of the cockpit locker about a metre behind the primary port sheet winch. Two years on I don't notice anything different from the port to s/board tack or sailing at an angle to sailing upright. You could always fit and try first.

However, this is a wheel drive system for yachts up to 7500kgs, are you aware of this?

hum I am talking about the "Raymarine Evolution Ev-1 Sensor Core E70096" bit. It is connected to a hydraulic system. Are you talking about the same bit of kit?

Apparently.
According to Raymarine: “Freedom from the restrictions of conventional heading sensors. EV sensor core can be installed above or below deck. Install upside-down or off the vessel's centre line.”
Evolution Autopilot for fishing, racing or cruising

Re: EV-1 location on Monohull?

I recently installed the same unit up high against a bulkhead in the port side cockpit locker, works fine on either tack.

Re: EV-1 location on Monohull?

My recent install was quite high up in the pilothouse and ~3' off the centerline, haven't had any issues resulting from installation location (and always had issues with my old fluxgate compass setup even though it was installed as prescribed).

However just remain aware that these things are still very sensitive to magnetic interference. As a result of mounting near centerline etc the fluxgate compass was far away from potential interference, my EV1 not so much. I mounted it in very convenient location (because it could be off center line) underneath chart table, I casually placed my tablet on the chart table above it and it lost its mind. Not sure if it was just the electronics in general or the magnetic clasp on the tablet case, but it sure scrambled the EV1's brain.

So all I'm saying is yes it seems you can put it off center and up if you need and it's easier, just still try to put it as far away from potential interference sources as possible.

Oops sorry, my mistake. It's the same sensor that is used in more than one autopilot.
