Electronics person in Charleston - Also life raft in Charleston?

I need some help tracing all of my NMEA and Raymarine wires on Pelican, and I need to add a Sirius weather unit. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good person with reasonable rates to work with in Charleston?


Also, I need to get a life raft and I'm planning on talking to Air-Sea Safety & Survival in Charleston. Does anyone know anything about this company?

Chris, Why do you need to trace all of the wire? Is this just to install the Sirius unit? Do you have both NMEA and Ryamarine Seatalk in your set up?

Chris, The Sirius Raymarine set up is all plug and play. The biggest issue will be where to install the antenna. The power cable and the Seatalk cable are the only other two to connect and they are both pretty straight forward. If you have more than just a plotter to connect you do need a network switch but it is all pretty simple to hook up.

A lot of the work was done before I bought the boat 2 years ago. I have a wiring block that's a mess and need to figure out what's what. There's Seatalk, NMEA and SeatalkNG (just installed a new SPX autopilot). I'm not sure what's what, and I'd like to "gain control" so I can troubleshoot and do my own work in the future. I just need another set of eyes to figure it all out.

Chuck - The reason I'm hoping to find someone to help me trace through wires is that I have no idea what's what - NMEA, Seatalk, etc. There are 3 different locations on our boat where we have communications related cabling, and I'm not sure what's what. I could spend a couple or three days tracing them myself, but I'd like to accelerate the process by bringing someone in to help and perhaps clean it up too. There's a real mish-mash of stuff. What I'd like to do is put an NMEA0183 junction box in, rewire all the NMEA stuff to it, reroute all my Seatalk stuff to the same spot and label and document everything correctly. THEN I can take care of installing the Sirius stuff
