Dual autopilot controllers

I am in the process of rearranging my cockpit layout and part of that is moving the sailing instruments from deck level to a pod in the new roof. I also have an ST6000+ autopilot controller on the steering binnacle which I am planning on moving to the top as well.

To make it still manageable from the helm I have a wired remote control that I was going to locate at the helm instead of having it for roaming around the boat (never used it for that, don’t like the concept).

But I also have a second controller exactly the same as the one integrated into the system.

So my question is: Can I connect two main controllers into the system at the same time? My thinking is that the remote controller is essentially no different than the main controller so it should work. They both connect via Seatalk network. Images show the controller on the left and the remote on the right.

Has anyone tried this or seen it done?

Re: Dual autopilot controllers

It is a seatalk system. You can put a dozen control pads on if you like. I have two. One at the helm and one at the nav station.

Re: Dual autopilot controllers

Yes. Many power boats have 2 helms. Both with controllers.

Re: Dual autopilot controllers

Well that was easy. Thanks chaps, now I can have both and still have a remote. Don’t know why I still want a remote though.

Re: Dual autopilot controllers

I have a Ray ST6000 controller AND their wireless controller both installed. Works like a charm. I particularly like the wireless controller. Can control the boat while reefing, gybing etc from anywhere, a very nice capability especially when single handing.

As an additional nicety, the wireless unit displays nearly all the data available on the seatalk network.
