DSC on HDS

Does anyone know if a Lowrance HDS Chartplotter will display DSC positions from a NMEA connected DSC VHS?

Re: DSC on HDS

Are you sure your radio will even send the dsc position info over NEMA?

You didn't say which HDS. HDS-5 and HDS-7 will, according to the manual.

Re: DSC on HDS

The radio is a Standard Horizon GX2000. It's supposed to output DSC sentences through NMEA 183 which I've connected to one of the HDS 8 NMEA 183 ports. Both the radio and chartplotter are showing AIS targets from my ICOM AIS unit but the HDS manual doesn't have much information about DSC.

Re: DSC on HDS

Here:

http://www.standardhorizon.com/downl...lication%2Fpdf

Since both 2100 and 2000 output DSC only at 4800 then the drawing would represent HDS-8 receiving DSC, hence it should also display DSC.

PLEASE note the wires on 2000 may have different colors - the above is 2100 diagram, not 2000.

Cheers,
b.

You should start out checking the following: Do you have the baud rate set correctly on the NMEA 0183 port that you're using for DSC? Is the electrical connection wired correctly?

Yes, by all means, it does.

I have the Standard Horizon GX-2150 that delivers DSC waypoints (from distress alerts and position reports) to the chartplotter from the radio via NMEA0183 38,400 baud rs422-like interface. Set it up that way on the HDS Settings... menu.

I also have the HX-851 handheld from Standard Horizon and by interacting between it and the GX-2150, I am able to check out all the functionality and the integrated messages to the HDS.

The DSC points are really more like waypoints, whereas the AIS targets are moved as the ship updates its position. I have not tried DSC polling yet with my setup to see if offers something similar to AIS updates.

How permanent are they? I mean do you stipulate in the menu of the plotter how long they stay on screen?
